I would like to announce that Valérie Chansigaud's latest book has just come out. It is entitled Des hommes et des oiseaux, and it deals with the history of bird protection. I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate her on such an achievement, and I hope it may help the cause of birds - it is published in partnership with the French association for the protection of birds (LPO : Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux), which celebrates its hundredth anniversary this year. Valérie Chansigaud was the guest who inaugurated our series last November with a fascinating talk on the history of natural history illustrations. One of her previous books, on the history of ornithology, has been translated into English.

Florike Egmond has also announced that her article dealing with the re-discovery of the Gessner/Platter drawings has come out electronically, and will be available on paper in 2013. It is published by the Journal of the History of Collections. In this article, she gives all the evidence for the identification and authentification of the drawings. A real detective story! Je voudrais annoncer ici que le dernier livre de Valérie Chansigaud vient de sortir. Il s'intitule Des hommes et des oiseaux et traite de l'histoire de la protection des oiseaux. Je voudrais en profiter pour la féliciter de ce travail, en espérant qu'il aidera à la protection des oiseaux - il est publié en partenariat avec la LPO, l'association française de protection des oiseaux, qui célèbre son centenaire cette année. Valérie Chansigaud avait inauguré notre série en novembre par une présentation fascinante de l'histoire des illustrations naturalistes. Un de ses livres précédents, l'histoire de l'ornithologie, a été traduit en anglais.


Florike Egmond m'a aussi prévenue que son article sur la redécouverte des dessins associés à Gessner et Platter vient de sortir sous forme électronique et sera disponible sous forme papier en 2013. Il est publié par le Journal of the History of Collections. Dans cet article, elle apporte tous les éléments qui ont permis l'identification et l'authentification des dessins.
