ILLUSTRATOR/ILLUSTRATEUR

Patryck Vaucoulon is a biology teacher and talented illustrator, who specialises in very detailed artistic/scientific plates of plants and animals, and also of large landscape views featuring characteristic species. An exhibition of some his works and photographs is on display at the Abbey of Cîteaux. It is going to last throughout the summer, and is well worth a visit. Patryck Vaucoulon spent some time in the Antarctic in the 80s, sketching penguins there, and also worked for a while in Madagascar. He is now based in Burgundy and very much attached to the local flora and fauna. He has published a book on Burgundy for publishers Delachaux et Niestlé, with Alain Chiffaut, a book which studies the very diverse environment of the region. He also knew my first biology teacher, Jean-Claude Rameau, who had a great impact on my interest for plants and animals.

Patryck Vaucoulon enseigne les sciences naturelles et est un illustrateur naturaliste de talent, qui se spécialise dans le rendu très détaillé à la fois artistique et scientifique de plantes et d'animaux, ainsi que des représentations de paysages comportant des espèces caractéristiques. Une exposition de certaines des ses planches et photos est visible en ce moment et tout l'été à l'Abbaye de Cîteaux, exposition qui mérite bien la visite. Patryck Vaucoulon a passé du temps dans l'Antarctique dans les années 80, où il a dessiné les manchots, et il a aussi travaillé un temps à Madagascar. Il est maintenant implanté en Bourgogne, et très attaché à la faune et flore locales. Il a aussi publié un livre sur la Bourgogne chez Delachaux et Niestlé, en collaboration avec Alain Chiffaut, livre qui étudie les différents milieux de la région. Il connaissait aussi mon premier professeur de sciences naturelles, Jean-Claude Rameau, qui a eu une forte influence sur mon intérêt pour les plantes et les animaux.
