THE TECHNICAL IMAGE/L'IMAGE TECHNIQUE

The University of Chicago Press is due to publish in the spring an English translation of the German book from 2008, "Das technische Bild". Unsurprisingly, it will be entitled "The Technical Image". Subtitled "A History of Styles in Scientific Imagery", it is edited by Horst Bredekamp, Vera Dunkel and Birgit Schneider. It is a series of studies on the interaction art/scientific images, and the important impact of images on the progress of science. It promises to be an interesting read. Here is the link to reviews:

Browsing the net for the authors, I've found a fascinating story of a forgery of a Galileo book in which Horst Bredekamp was asked to give his opinion. As it happens, he thought the forged book was genuine, but to be honest, the forger (an Italian) was really an expert in his field, and the story of how, as the head of an italian library, he ransacked very rare books is chilling!
