NEXT SEMINAR JUNE 7/PROCHAIN SEMINAIRE LE 7 JUIN

The topic for our next seminar is about popularisation of science through images, especially in the publishing business in the nineteenth century. Our first guest, Norbert Verdier, teaches mathematics and history of science in Cachan, and has published a biography of mathematician Evariste Galois (Galois, le mathématicien maudit, Belin, 2011). He will talk about the engraving of geometrical figures. Our second speaker, Daniel Raichvarg, from the University of Burgundy, is a specialist of scientific popularisation, particularly in the field of education. He will talk about scientific images in children's books in the nineteenth century.

Le thème de notre prochain séminaire sera la vulgarisation des sciences par l'image, en particulier dans le monde de l'édition au dix-neuvième siècle. Notre premier invité, Norbert Verdier, enseigne les mathématiques et l'histoire des sciences à Cachan. Il nous parlera de la gravures des figures de géométrie. Notre deuxième intervenant, Daniel Raichvarg, de l'université de Bourgogne, est un spécialiste de la vulgarisation des sciences, surtout en ce qui concerne le domaine de l'éducation. Il nous parlera des images scientifiques dans les livres pour enfants au dix-neuvième siècle.
